Questions of a King

In Matthew chapter 17, we find Jesus being questioned on the account of the temple tax.  Jesus asks the question, "Does a king get tax his own sons?"  This of course is rhetorical.  Everyone knows a king would not go to his children for money.  For this reason, believers in Christ do not have to do give sort of penance.  I find this intriguing and really enjoy the fact that Jesus responds with such underlying comedy.  Sarcasm is great, and is from the Lord, by the Lord.  I should pay close attention to Jesus' questions in the Scriptures.

Masaccio's painting depicts this incident between Jesus and the takers of the temple tax.  Feliche summons this depiction on his chapel walls.  It is a statement saying that the good citizens of Florence should not have to pay a state tax.
