Cruelty is the Way?

Today, the statement was made in class, "you must be cruel, and show no mercy, in the beginning, and then one can show kindness later when you have 'trained' your inferiors."  Is this really true?   Is this the state of humanity?  If so, I believe we are in dire need of something more.  People have this mind-set because it is a near true statement.  This fact is one that brings great concern, and careful thinking to me.  

This type of thinking calls for people of faith.  This is why I believe multiple religions are being birthed world wide.  Something inside all humanity realizes this should not be.  Most people believe in doing good.  This is the post-modern world we live in.  If everyone does their own thing, their own way, but for greater good, everything is okay.  This is a reason for people of their faith, to share their faith.  Especially those who believe in the person of Jesus Christ.  If we truly believe Him, we should act like it, and share our faith right?  If we do not believe Him fully, let us not believe Him at all.
