What They Chose in Life

In class on Thursday, we dissected and contemplated the many wonders of Dante's Inferno. Many of the subjects we ran across really stuck out to me. For instance, Abernathy stated that the "lukewarm" people received in death what they chose in life. Think about that for just a second. "WHAT THEY CHOSE IN LIFE" really sticks out to me. What do we choose in life? When options and decisions come our way, which paths do we choose? Do we ever wonder about the results of those actions? Do the consequences that may come shortly after our decisions ever cross our mind? Another aspect to consider about these "lukewarm" individuals, is the concept that they cannot get in to either Heaven or hell. Therefore, one may assume, that their actions were too bad for Heaven and too good for hell. They were stuck in this middle section between black and white, bad and good, eternal life and eternal death. Keeping this in mind, I have a challenge for each of you who have so much time on your hands that you're actually reading this. This week, during your busy every day schedule, stop and think for a second about your actions...your choices. If you were a character in the Inferno, what would you receive in death because of your choices in life?

  1. This is something that really something that stuck out to me too. How do we choose to live? What are we choosing to focus on, to live for?A lot of times we don't even think about what we are choosing. We go to class, we sleep, we hang out with friends.... we fill our time, we don't choose it. But even in filling our time we are making a choice.
