Soul
I wonder if the medievals knew something more of the soul that we don't because they're pre-Enlightenment. After reading the Confessions and seeing the turmoil of the soul that he went through I can't help but wonder if there is something missing with us. The medieval was still connected with the soul and with God on a level that I don't know if we can acheive anymore. I think we're attempting to restore something of that awe that was before the schism between reason/the mind and the soul. We are attempting to return to that original form and I think we experience a lot of tension from that which is represented in the more modern writers. They seem to have a more primal cthonic awe of God which the modern has lost due to the Cartesian way of thought. I could be wrong but there seems to be something more natural about their awe of God; not saying that we don't admire God but I feel like we're straining for something that they just naturally had. These are just thoughts so take it how you will...haha...
